Fossil Fuels, such as oil and coal, play a major role in many of the environmental problems present today.  Burning fossil fuels creates greenhouse gases, air pollution, and water and soil contamination.  In contrast, renewable energy sources, such as solar energy, have no or few emissions. The production and consumption of electricity generated from traditional fossil fuels causes Pennsylvania to emit 1 percent of the entire world's global warming gases.
