Energy Policy Act of 2005

       

The  new energy bill signed in August 2005 provides many incentives for renewable energy appliances and repairs. Some examples of popular discounts within the bill are below.

Consumer Energy Conservation Provisions:

  1. Consumers can receive a tax credit of up to $200 for the installation of new exterior windows.
  2. Consumers can receive up to a $300 credit for the purchase of a highly efficient central air conditioner, heat pump or water heater.
  3. Consumers can receive tax credits up to $500 on the amount they spend to upgrade thermostats, to caulk leaks, or to stop energy waste.
  4. Consumers can receive up to $150 for the installation of a highly efficient furnace or boiler.
  5. A new provision provides a 10% investment tax credit for expenditures with respect to improvements to the building envelope.
  6. Consumers can receive credits for the purchase of advanced main air circulating fans; natural gas, propane or oil furnaces or hot water boilers; and other qualified energy efficient property.
  7. Consumers can receive $100 appliance credits for washers and dryers, as well as a similar credit for qualified refrigerators.
  8. Contractors who build energy efficient homes and manufacturers of energy efficient appliances will receive tax credits.
